Risk of Artemisinin in Early Pregnancy

The purpose of the research is to assess the risk of artemisinin in early pregnancy by using a qualitative research technique, with an emphasis on rural women. Artemisinin-Based Combination Therapy (ACT) is regarded as the effective and suggested antimalarial remedy at the present. Artemisinin compounds are obtained from Artemisia annua, a plant which has been utilized as a herbal medical treatment in China. Apart from a few side-effects, there have not been any reports on health concerns because of artemisinin intake while being pregnant. However, artemisinin tested on animals have exposed that problems like death of embryos are possible while being pregnant, why more investigation is required with regards to artemisinin safety in first trimester of pregnancy. Having said that, assessing the risk of artemisinin during pregnancy is referred as complex, when quite a few factors can bring about e.g. fetal loss, abnormalities, or wrong medication. Cultural and economical aspects need to be taken into consideration when coming up with a monitoring system, to allow effective registration of drug quality and drug intake, and follow-up research of mom and kid. Accessibility, affordability, possibility and knowledge, are other major linked elements which must be managed to get rid of the risk of artemisinin in early pregnancy.
